Just because we are a professional fraternity doesn’t mean we’re all work and no play. Gamma Mu participates in many social activities. While most of these activities are closed to members, prospective members are invited to participate in a few.
Once a semester, a lock-in is held usually, but not always, at a member’s house or apartment. At the lock-in, members have an opportunity to get to know the new member class. With games, food, and plenty of laughter, excitement, and picture taking, a feeling of brotherhood is established throughout the evening and wee hours of the morning.
In addition to the lock-in, several DO get-togethers are held throughout the semester. These allow members to gather, have fun, and share in the many talents that tie the fraternity together.
Gamma Mu tends to enjoy celebrating the end of semesters. With the end of classes and exams, everyone is excited!
Typically, at the end of the fall semester, we have a Christmas dinner at The Homeplace (a homestyle restaurant in Catawba, VA). Members eat good food and celebrate the holiday season. Usually, some sort of gift exchange, ranging from a Secret Santa to an Ugly Ornament Exchange, takes place.
At the end of the spring semester, a DO cookout is usually held at one of the local parks. There’s lots of good food, good times, and great laughs. Members are even spotted picking up a game of Frisbee or football.
The social events allow us to create a strong bond that lasts past graduation. With Gamma Mu, once a DO, always a DO.
